Smart Shopping Tips for the Mall

Posted in How To, New Features, SeeSpend.com Features, Tips, shopping with tags , , on January 22, 2010 by seespend

So, it’s time to do a little shopping on the internet. There’s so much choice, where do you start? Well, start with SeeSpend and cut through the clutter. Here are some tips to help you out.

It’s all about you:

Open a free account to save ratings, create custom malls and save time.

Save Time:

Skip the millions of search results and key in on the best places to shop for a new LCD tv.

Save Money:

Click on the red tag Sales and Outlets to jump right to a website’s sales and clearance items. You can also filter the mall to only show websites with sales or outlets.

Give Better Gifts:

Combine the search and filter options for better focus. Your nephew is into snowboarding and you don’t know what to get him this birthday? Search for “snowboard” and filter on gift card for the perfect present.

Be A Shopping Maven:

Use the icons at the foot of the mall to email, tweet or Facebook what you’ve found with your friends – like all the shoe sites with outlets.

Do Some Research:

Use the kiosk icons (just above the mall) to research your purchase with Wikipedia, Google News, Consumer Reports and others. They are automatically linked to your search terms, so a Valentines mall will also take you to Wikipedia, Google News or 1-800 Flowers.

Bonus Tip

Send some feedback (via the tab) and help us build a better mall.

SeeSpend.com is open to the public

Posted in New Features on December 11, 2009 by seespend

The waiting is over and SeeSpend.com is ready to help you with all your shopping needs.
The idea is to combine the conveniences of a shopping mall with the power of the web. So we offer the best shops and services, nicely organized, all in one place, combined with the ability to quickly search, rate, and filter the results.

And unlike other sites that focus on the products, we are catering to you, the shopper. Let’s say you want buy a new LCD TV. Search most sites and you get back a list of (literally) millions of results from a huge jumble of websites, both familiar and unknown, scrolling down page after page. Search SeeSpend.com, you get an organized mall; the best-rated stores are on the first level, color-coded by type, with icons that link to website features (like sales), and related information (like the news or wikipedia entries) is right there, all on one page.

Other ways to use SeeSpend.com

In a hurry? No problem. Just open up Seespend.com and the most popular stores and services are right there.

Looking for something in particular? Type “shoes” or “laptop” or “jewelry” into the search bar, hit enter and the right mall appears.

Shopping on a budget? Some sites seem to hide their clearances pages, but SeeSpend.com found them. Just select the Sale/Outlet filter in ‘Narrow your search’ and see only the stores that offer this shopping option. Click on a site’s red tag and go straight to the savings.

Not sure what gift to give? Then let them get what they want. Select the Gift Card filter in ‘Narrow your search’ and see only the stores that offer this shopping option. Combined with a search like “football” or “art” and your gift card shows you were thinking of them.

Need to send a hint? Search for “jewelry” or “watches” and use the links at the bottom of the mall to send an email, tweet or Facebook posting to make sure your partner will be on the right track.

Why open a free account?

You can build your own favorites mall. Just start rating the stores you like (or dislike) to let the best rise to the top. Then, even before you start a search, your default mall will be full of just your favorite sites.

Create malls for special occasions. If you find a special website that you want to come back to later, add your own personal tags and build a “Mom’s Birthday” or “Family Christmas” mall throughout the year. When the time comes, enter your search and see all those special sites.

Happy Shopping from Seespend.com.

Search Enhancements

Posted in New Features, Tips on November 23, 2009 by seespend

We have added numerous options to the search functionality, so here is a cheat sheet.

Searches can be general or look for specific properties. You can combine these options as needed.

General Searches

The general search can now handle multiple terms, separated by spaces.

Examples:

cool will find all sites with ‘cool’ in the name, description, or your keywords.

cool, books will find sites where both ‘cool’ and ‘books’ are used in either the name, description, or your keywords, but not necessarily together.

Specific Searches

Search options are entered by using a type (ending in a colon) followed by the search item, without any spaces between. All types have a short and long version.

The types are:

  • t: checks the tags you have entered for a site (or tag:).
  • u: checks the site’s url (or url:).
  • s: checks the site’s name (or site:).
  • d: checks the site’s description (or description:).
  • n: checks your site notes (or note:).
  • a: checks your account notes (or account:).

Examples:

t:cool will find all sites you have tagged as ‘cool’.

t:cool s:books will find sites you tagged as ‘cool’ that also have ‘books’ in the site’s name.
